Greetings from Fort Stanwix National Monument

We were on our first extended trip around the country in our new RV, when we made it to Fort Stanwix in New York in July of 2021. We discovered that this is a dog friendly park so we brought our cockapoo “Ricky” along for the tour.

When we entered the fort we were greeted by Ranger Daniel Umstead.

Ranger Umstead was kind enough to perform the Bark Badge initiation for our dog before we began our tour of the fort.

Ranger Umstead was well versed in the history of fort. He gave us a great overview of what happened at this fort and then encouraged us to participate in the demonstration he was going to lead on the loading and firing of the canon.

We had a spectacular day at the fort and learned so much about how this fort was used and the hardships endured by those who served there.
